FACING A GROWING REALITY

Dr. Karen Bouchard joins CBC to explore the unique challenges of navigating parenthood while managing heart disease.

Dr. Karen Bouchard recently joined CBC Radio’s All in a Day with Alan Neal. During the interview, she highlighted three main concerns of parenting with early-onset cardiovascular disease:

1) Communicating the event/diagnosis to their children

2) Fulfilling a parenting role

3) Children’s physical, emotional, and social adjustment

As rates of heart disease continue to rise among younger adults, an increasing number of patients are also parents of young children or teenagers. The Social Connections Lab is working to support parents who are navigating the dual roles of managing heart disease while raising a family.
